Vikings Club National

Description: Description: cid:image013.gif@01CB0A6F.3C8974C0Despite the ominous threat of reduced racers, rain, thunder, lightning and running out of Coke of all things, the Ipswich CN went ahead this weekend.

84 racers braved the weather 27 of which were Vikings our biggest turn out yet!  Plenty of trophies, plenty of fun and loads of cash.  Hopefully we can repeat this at the ERSA.

Some really nice comments about the race posted on facebook all in blue.

‘Nice one Bernie and team! A really good event as always’ (Guy Hornsby, ASC and apparently a nice bloke)

Its a pleasure to be an official at Ipswich, such a laid-back atmosphere .....’ (Simon Wheatman, Race Referee)

Ipswich CN was excellent, a very entertaining and yet efficiently organised and well run event! Think a GP would have topped off the weekend! Well done to Bernie and all who organised and officiated on the day so professionally.

(Peter Akister, commentator runs 1 & 3)

Pendle Club National and Grand Prix Series 2010 - Race 2 – Pendle

Only Two Vikings braved the weather at Pendle. On the Saturday we woke to drizzle! The weather was ‘changeable’ sometimes it drizzled and sometimes it rained.

Bev won Masters Ladies, Chris finished all three runs and didn’t come last (or even 2nd to last).

On Sunday, for the Grand Prix, the rain stopped! It was replaced by a strong wind straight up the slope.

Chris had wimped out and was forerunning (you get more runs, they feed you and it’s free) so only Bev competed, again winning the Masters ladies

Pendle Ski Club is in a beautiful setting and with matting kept in very good condition and well worth a visit so perhaps more Vikings will race there next year.

ERSA SL 1 Milton Keynes

20 Vikings went into the fridge at Milton Keynes on a scorching day to take part in the first summer league race of the season. In a race dominated by Milton Keynes and Hemel racers only two Vikings got podium results with Alex Lillywhite coming third in Children 2 girls and Foo Troung also coming third in Masters 2.

Other results included:

Stoke Club National

Grahams version:

4.00am - the alarm rings

4.05am – teenager grunts past me

5.05am – leave house

5.35am – meet Rolf & Bernie at Tesco’s

8.30am – Arrive at Stoke for the National

Why oh why?

Well firstly it sounded like a good idea at the time.  But mainly to give Tally, Tash and Daryl the experience of another slope and race against some of the best in the country.

To prove how competitive they are, Tally and Tash were within 2 hundredths of a second for the first two runs, giving both (proud) fathers a tense finish to the racing day, to add to their tiredness! Natalia just pipped it on the last run, so lets see who wins next time?

Rolfs version:

A long day but one when our three Vikings performed well. Natasha and Natalia were neck and neck all day finishing 9th and 10th and Daryl skied magnificently. Many miles a way and so no surprise there were just three Vikings but on the 6th June we have our Club National at Ipswich.

Every Viking member is eligible to enter and so lets have a big turnout. Unless you have been invited for tea with the Queen talk to Bernie, Lesley, Graham or me and get registered for the race. Graham will remember the Gazebo this time.

Norwich Club National

As the sun rose high above the peaceful Norfolk countryside a group of excited and determined Vikings arrived at the dry slope on Saturday for the latest Club National.

Despite the changeable weather, Bernie still had those legs out. Thankfully there was enough going on that we didn’t notice them….. too much.

Well done to all of the racers that took part, by the time the ERSA races come along we should be as raced prepared as we ever have been.

There are a few photos and all the results below.

Alain Baxter comes to Suffolk

Description: Description: Description: Description: alain and Vikings 50pc

On Monday 15 March Olympic and World Cup skier Alain Baxter came to Suffolk. After breakfast with local businessmen Alain put on a pair of borrowed skis (thanks Adele!) and went out on our slope. It was the first time Alain had been on a dry slope in a number of years and he admitted to being a little nervous. He then joined in with a Vikings training session, demonstrating his starting technique in front of some 20 Vikings, their parents, coaches and ski centre staff. No pressure there then! All the Vikings had a chance to get feedback from Alain on their starts, and on a run through a course. Alain also autographed lots of different items and posed with the Vikings for photos. All those present had a great time, and we would like to thank Alain for giving up his time, and Karen Pickering and Team Ipswich for organising the event.
